Short WN and WO distances, as well as nearly linear WNC and W-O-Si units characterize the trigonal-planar, slightly distorted coordination sphere of the W atom in 1. Emerald-green crystals of 1 are formed in very high yield on reduction of the chloro complex 2 in diethyl ether. Compound 1 is stable as a solid, but decomposes in benzene with a half-life of 1 h.
