To address the critical nursing shortage and promote workforce diversity, the Summer Scholars Program was established, guided by the principles of the Healthcare Workforce Equity Framework. This pilot initiative aimed to immerse diverse undergraduate students in graduate studies and research careers. Nine students participated in the program and completed pre/post surveys and interviews. Results indicated modest improvements in research skills, motivation, and understanding of health disparities, alongside reduced anxiety and increased enjoyment of research. Participants highlighted the value of exposure to various healthcare roles and suggested additional shadowing opportunities. Notable outcomes included forming a learning community and enhancing abilities to interpret research findings. Future research should examine long-term effects of the program on career trajectories and contributions to reducing health disparities.
