In this discussion the author treats the time from the closing of the Würm maximum age to the recent as the Holocene epoch. The author has investigated development history of the peat bogs in Northern Japan and their surrounding areas, and has got the following results concerning the climate of Northern Japan during the Holocene epoch. That is, in the beginning of the Holocene epoch it was relatively colder than at the present. Afterwards the temperature rose, and in about 5000B.C. when the transgression was in maximum, the climate was somewhat warmer and drier than at the present. The climate, however, suddenly changed around 1000B.C., and the temperature fell and became cooler and moister. But it did not continue very long. The climate became again drier around the Christian era. The warm period before 1000B.C. corresponds to the Climatic Optimum in Europe.
