The vaporization of the systems holmium–carbon and dysprosium–carbon has been studied by means of the Knudsen-effusion–mass-spectrometric technique. In addition to the gaseous atoms, dicarbide and tetracarbide molecules were identified, and their bond and atomization energies were obtained. The values found are practically coincident for the two systems. A determination of the heats of formation for HoC2(s) and DyC2(s) has also been made.
