Five are continent: 4 by intermittent catheterization and 1 by voiding to completion. One child is just beyond infancy and wets but is not yet on a systematic program. One boy was considered a technical failure despite incontinence because of progressive hydronephrosis from a non-compliant bladder but he subsequently had an augmentation cystoplasty. Urinary undiversion into a neurogenic bladder is an acceptable option as an alternative to ileal conduit revision or for reasons of patient preference, provided bladder storage capacity is adequate at acceptably low resting pressures, without incontinence. © 1980 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byLais A, Paolocci N, Ferro F, Bosman C, Boldrini R and Caione P (2018) Morphometric Analysis of Smooth Muscle in the Exstrophy-Epispadias ComplexJournal of Urology, VOL. 156, NO. 2S, (819-821), Online publication date: 1-Aug-1996.Herschorn S, Rangaswamy S and Radomski S (2018) Urinary Undiversion in Adults with Myelodysplasia: Long-Term FollowupJournal of Urology, VOL. 152, NO. 2 Part 1, (329-333), Online publication date: 1-Aug-1994.Hendren W and Hendren R (2018) Bladder Augmentation: Experience with 129 Children and Young AdultsJournal of Urology, VOL. 144, NO. 2 Part 2, (445-453), Online publication date: 1-Aug-1990.Chun A, Ruzich J, Wein A and Levin R (2018) Functional and Pharmacological Effects of Ureteral DiversionJournal of Urology, VOL. 141, NO. 2, (403-407), Online publication date: 1-Feb-1989.Rushton H, Woodard J, Parrott T, Jeffs R and Gearhart J (2018) Delayed Bladder Rupture after Augmentation EnterocystoplastyJournal of Urology, VOL. 140, NO. 2, (344-346), Online publication date: 1-Aug-1988.Gearhart J and Jeffs R (2018) Augmentation Cystoplasty in the Failed Exstrophy ReconstructionJournal of Urology, VOL. 139, NO. 4, (790-793), Online publication date: 1-Apr-1988.King L, Webster G and Bertram R (2018) Experiences with Bladder Reconstruction in ChildrenJournal of Urology, VOL. 138, NO. 4 Part 2, (1002-1006), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1987.Gearhart J, Albertsen P, Marshall F and Jeffs R (2018) Pediatric Applications of Augmentation Cystoplasty: The Johns Hopkins ExperienceJournal of Urology, VOL. 136, NO. 2, (430-432), Online publication date: 1-Aug-1986.Sidi A, Reinberg Y and Gonzalez R (2018) Influence of Intestinal Segment and Configuration on the Outcome of Augmentation EnterocystoplastyJournal of Urology, VOL. 136, NO. 6, (1201-1204), Online publication date: 1-Dec-1986.Gonzalez R and Ami Sidi A (2018) Preoperative Prediction of Continence After Enterocystoplasty or Undiversion in Children with Neurogenic BladderJournal of Urology, VOL. 134, NO. 4, (705-707), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1985.Kaplan G (2018) Editorial CommentsJournal of Urology, VOL. 134, NO. 4, (707-707), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1985.Perlmutter A (2018) Editorial CommentsJournal of Urology, VOL. 134, NO. 4, (707-707), Online publication date: 1-Oct-1985.Quinif N and Nasrallah P (2018) Sexuality After Urinary UndiversionJournal of Urology, VOL. 130, NO. 1, (129-131), Online publication date: 1-Jul-1983.Kass E and Koff S (2018) Bladder Augmentation in the Pediatric Neuropathic BladderJournal of Urology, VOL. 129, NO. 3, (552-554), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1983.Perlmutter A (2018) Editorial CommentJournal of Urology, VOL. 129, NO. 3, (554-555), Online publication date: 1-Mar-1983.Goldstein H and Hensle T (2018) Urinary Undiversion in AdultsJournal of Urology, VOL. 128, NO. 1, (143-150), Online publication date: 1-Jul-1982.Hendren W (2018) Editorial CommentJournal of Urology, VOL. 128, NO. 1, (150-150), Online publication date: 1-Jul-1982.Brendler C and Stephenson T (2018) Urinary Diversion and Undiversion in ChildrenJournal of Urology, VOL. 125, NO. 4, (457-462), Online publication date: 1-Apr-1981.
