Simulation study demonstrates enhanced energy management and stable DC bus voltage in a solar-powered EV charging station, suggesting a sustainable design for smart grid integration.
This paper presents a solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging station which connects to the electrical grid. The system uses the Chimp algorithm to achieve its optimal performance while consuming minimum energy during different solar radiation levels. The system includes two smart modes that help you manage your energy better. Mode 1 uses a stationary battery as the primary energy storage system which stores additional energy from the PV system during peak sunlight hours and distributes it during periods of low or no solar power. The system can operate a controlled 400 V DC bus which delivers continuous power to a 1 kW load. In Mode 2, the EV battery is the main energy storage system which allows direct charging from renewable energy sources. The fixed battery, on the other hand, stays idle. The PV array supplies energy to power the load. The extra energy produced is used to charge the EV. The grid maintains power to both the EV battery and the DC load during times when sunlight is insufficient. The simulation findings demonstrate that the EV battery's state of charge (SoC) is efficiently enhanced and the PV systems storage and grid operate effectively under various weather conditions. The dual-mode design maintains consistent DC bus voltage while it efficiently identifies maximum power point (MPPT) which operates continuously as a sustainable solution for intelligent EV charging systems.
