Theoretical analysis reveals limits in deriving three fermion generations from cyclotomic data on Calabi-Yau manifolds, highlighting constraints on grand unified gauge breaking.
We examine the geometric origin of three fermion generations in the TTOE framework. The Calabi–Yau threefold with Hodge numbers (h11, h21) = (1, 4), Euler characteristic χ = −6 and fundamental group Z12 (Braun, Candelas & Davies 2010) yields three net generations via the standard embedding V = TX, by the Hirzebruch–Riemann–Roch index χ/2 = −3. This is published geometry, not a TTOE derivation, and the paper says so explicitly. The paper's own contribution is a negative result, reported honestly: we test whether the cyclotomic data of the A2 = SU(3) factor in E8 ⊃ E6 × A2 — the field Q(ζ3), its Galois group C2 and the Dirichlet character χ−3 — provides a canonical map to K0(X) that determines c3 = ±6 without insertion. It does not: the cyclotomic character supplies a sign (±1), K-theory needs an integer (±6), and the attempted map reduces to a manual sign assignment. The gap is stated precisely, together with what would close it (a principle within E8 selecting χ = −6 from the CY landscape, or a natural bundle construction from arithmetic data — monad or spectral cover). Also included: a structural explanation of why the Z12 quotient and not the dicyclic Dic3 quotient of the covering space Y(8,44) admits the MSSM spectrum — the Wilson line must land in the abelian centraliser U(1)_Y, so it factors through the abelianisation (Z12 vs. Z4), with the exact count n − gcd(5, n) of Wilson lines breaking SU(5) to precisely the Standard Model group (11 for n = 12, 3 for n = 4). Every claim is classified: External input / Derived / Conditional / Open (five falsifiable entries, PRED-CY1 to PRED-CY5).
