In this letter, we present the relation between source current intensity causing ULF electromagnetic emissions associated with earthquakes and the magnitude of earthquakes. For analyses, two assumptions are made: (1) the source currents flow near the hypocenter, and (2) they have the same frequency dependence for any events. To deduce the source current intensity, we perform electromagnetic field simulation by using the weighted Laguerre polynomial-FDTD method for efficient computations, taking into account the subsurface conductivity. As a result, the source current intensity is found to have a correlation with the magnitude of earthquakes.
