The electron impact mass spectra of permethylated aldohexopyranosyl-(1 – x)-aldohexoses, where x = 1–6, are given. A scheme is presented to discriminate between the various types of glycosidic linkages. Moreover, their fragmentation mechanisms and mutual differences are examined with the aid of labelled compounds, high resolution measurements and information derived from metastable ions.
