Human oral epithelial lesions showing epithelial dysplasia were contrasted with hamster cheek pouch lesions induced by DMBA using the Smith & Pindborg (1969) technique for epithelial atypia scoring. It is concluded that the histological features of dysplasia in the hamster are closely similar to human lesions.
