Recent years have witnessed the palladium-catalyzed C−H activation emerging as a versatile strategy for the construction of valuable scaffolds. Palladacyclopentane-type intermediates, usually created by C−H activation from an aryl-Pd(II) precursor, provide opportunities for subsequent C−H hetero-functionalizations and have therefore received numerous attention in organic synthesis. In this review article, we summarise recent advances of C−H hetero-functionalization of arenes through palladacyclopentane-type intermediates in the past decade.
