Industrial assembly systems are required to adapt to product and production program changes while increasing automation and reutilization. The concept of line-less, mobile assembly is derived from the state of the art in assembly organization and flexible automation. Leveraging the potential of mobilized assembly resources and products requires managing complex interactions between all involved systems. To facilitate planning, scheduling, and control a descriptive model is introduced and different perspectives on the model (design, planning, scheduling) are highlighted. For performance assessment different KPI (e.g. throughout per job, average lead time) are derived to accommodate the unique properties of line-less mobile assembly.
