The oviposition rhythm in Laspeyresia pomonella (L.) is entrained by light‐dark cycles and freeruns in continuous light with a period τ = 25.9 hr and in continuous darkness with τ = 21.8 hr. In the laboratory as well as in the field, the median of oviposition occurs on average 2.5 hr before the onset of darkness. The codling moth can adapt quickly to a new light regime. Oviposition was resynchronized with a normal light‐dark cycle within 48 hr after freerunning for several days in continuous light.
