The deuterioformylation of (Z)‐ or (E)‐2‐butene catalyzed by [DIOP]Pt(SnCl3)‐Cl DIOP=2,3‐O‐isopropylidene‐2,3‐dihydroxy‐1,4‐bis(diphenylphosphino)butane. gives predominantly erythro‐ or threo‐1,3‐[2H]2‐2‐methylbutanal respectively. Hence, hydroformylation by this catalytic system must take place with cis‐stereochemistry.
