Benthic microalgal production and the ingestion and subsequent metabolism of algal carbon by Foraminifera and several metazoan meiofauna were measured in situ in McMurdo Sound, Antarctica. The benthic microalgal con~munity was dominated by the diatom Amphora antarctica.
