Mixed tumor of the skin (MTS) is one of the cutaneous adnexal tumors, which comprise epithelial, myoepithelial and stromal components. Based on the characteristics of the epithelial component, MTS is divided into two subtypes: apocrine MTS and eccrine MTS. MTS sometimes has the appearance of a soft tissue tumor due to prominent stomal components, however, difficulties are associated with its clinical diagnosis. We report a case of apocrine MTS with a prominent cartilaginous and myxoid stroma that affected the right thigh of a 31-year-old man. Although apocrine MTS had the appearance of a soft tissue chondroma, it was correctly diagnosed by careful histological observations of the tumor. In future cases of a cutaneous tumor with the appearance of a soft tissue tumor, careful histological observations of an overview of the tumor are needed to avoid a misdiagnosis.
