A neutron-diffraction study of polycrystalline samples of gold-manganese alloys near the composition AuMn has correlated the crystallographic and magnetic-structure changes as the composition and temperature are varied. The interlayer spacing between the antiferromagnetically arranged ferromagnetic sheets is retained practically unaltered. It is concluded that the magnetic moment on the manganese atoms is 4.2 μR.
