Unexpected Formation of Osmium Carbyne and Vinylidene Complexes from the Reaction of OsCl2(PPh3)3 with HC⋮CCMe3

Treatment of OsCl 2 (PPh 3 ) 3 with HC⋮CCMe 3 produced a mixture of OsCl 3 (⋮CCH 2 CMe 3 )(PPh 3 ) 2 and OsCl( C CHCMe 3 )(C(C⋮CCMe 3 ) CHCMe 3 )(PPh 3 ) 2 . The structures of the new complexes have been confirmed by X-ray diffraction studies.
