A combination of Heliathis nuclear-polyhedrosis virus and DDT resulted in less damage to early-season sweet corn than the virus or DDT alone. A single early-tassel treatment with the virus gave control of corn earworm, Heliothis zea (Boddie), comparable to an early-tassel treatment followed by 5 silk-stage treatments of either the virus or DDT. In a late-season test against a complex of corn earworm; fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) ; and European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis (Hũbner), late-whorl or early-tassel treatment with a combination of corn earworm and fall armyworm nuclear-polyhedrosis viruses was as effective as the late-whorl or early-tassel treatment followed by 5 silk treatments with the viruses.
