Reaction of {(η 5 -C 5 Me 5 )Fe} 2 (μ-H) 4 with t Bu 2 SiH 2 provides the first dinuclear iron μ-silane complex, {(η 5 -C 5 Me 5 )Fe} 2 (μ-H) 2 (μ-η 2:η 2 -H 2 Si t Bu 2 ), in which two Si−H σ-bonds are coordinated to two iron centers. The coordinated Si−H bond is readily cleaved and the μ-silane ligand is eliminated to give a dinuclear iron active species which reacts in situ with organic substrates.
