Ogg's rough calculation indicating the relative ground state energetic stability of paired electrons as compared to unpaired electrons in certain dielectric media was repeated but with the opposite result. However, an approximate consideration of the complete equilibrium constant rather than just the energy factor alone suggests that a considerable number of pairs may indeed be present. The case in which the polarization of the dielectric is able to follow in detail the motion of the charged particle or particles within a cavity is also discussed.
