A general derivation of the M10‐law for the anisotropy constant K1 of cubic ferro‐ and ferrimagnets is presented in the frame of spin wave theory. No assumptions on the degree of localization of the magnetic electrons are needed. The M10‐law is valid if the vacuum state of magnons is temperature independent. The anomalous temperature dependence of K1 in the case of nickel is explained by the hypothesis of indirect anisotropic exchange.
