Some authors have theoretically shown that the linear expansion factor αη of a polymer coil, as obtained from viscosity measurements, should be slightly lower than the linear expansion factor α, as obtained from light scattering. By applying statistical procedures to the experimental values of α and αη reported for some polymers, it is shown that no difference between α and αη can practically be detected, whereas the relationships explicitly or implicitly proposed to take into account the theoretical results are less satisfactory than the simple identity of the expansion factors obtained from the two different methods.
