Feeding male Collaborative Cross mice an obesogenic diet allows modeling NAFLD at the population level. The development of NAFLD coincided with significant hepatic transcriptomic changes in this model. Genes (724) were differentially expressed and expression of 68 genes strongly correlated with the extent of hepatic lipid accumulation. Partial least squares modeling showed that derived hepatic gene expression signatures may help to identify individual mouse strains that are highly susceptible to the development of NAFLD.
