The anomalous frequency non‐coincidence effect in strongly interacting liquids (ωiso < ωIR) was interpreted in terms of non‐resonant splitting caused by short‐range interparticle repulsion. The shift of the in‐phase component of the split lines was found to depend mainly on dsi/dQj, the derivative of the vibrational displacement of the ith atom with respect to the normal coordinat of jth vibration. For molten potassium thiocyanate, the numerical estimations agree well with the experimental data.
