Computational analysis reveals path-dependent variations in gas density correction factors within rectangular scattering chambers, highlighting empirical equations for experimental design.
The method developed previously for calculating gas distributions in steady-state flows is applied to beam-scattering chambers having rectangular apertures in parallel rectangular walls. Values of the scattering gas density distribution correction factors were calculated for several combinations of various chamber parameters. Off-axis calculations show the variations in alpha along different paths through the same scattering chamber. Empirical equations which give the axial values of alpha for chambers of practical dimensions are presented and their implications discussed.
