Transition probabilities for magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole transitions within the ground-state configuration 1s 2 2s 2 2p 2 in O III are calculated using J-dependent configuration interaction wavefunctions. These transition probabilities and rate coefficients of Baluja et al. (1981) calculated using the R-matrix method are then used to calculate the intensity ratio (I( 1 D 2 to 3 P 2 )+I( 1 D 2 to 3 P 1 ))/I( 1 S 0 to 1 D 2 ) which is used in temperature diagnostics of planetary and gaseous nebulae. The results are compared with other work.
