The molybdenum dinitrogen complex trans -[Mo(N 2 ) 2 (dppe) 2 ] (dppe = Ph 2 PCH 2 CH 2 PPh 2 ) reacts with an excess of PhCH NAr (Ar = Ph, p -MeC 6 H 4, p -MeOC 6 H 4 ) in benzene at reflux under N 2 to give novel isocyanide−dinitrogen complexes, trans -[Mo(CNAr)(N 2 )(dppe) 2 ] ( 5 ), in moderate yield. An X-ray diffraction study of 5a (Ar = Ph) is reported.
