Aftereffect has been understood qualitatively since Preisach first reported it and Neel and Wohlfarth explained its origin. We use the Preisach model to quantitatively discuss relaxation of magnetic materials as a function of their history over the entire time regime. The maximum decay rate occurs at the average operative critical field only for single-quadrant media with small fluctuating fields.
