The reaction of perylene with anhydrous bismuth bromide leads to a new structurally characterized π-arene complex. Arene−bismuth interactions and weak π···π perylene−perylene contacts stabilize the molecular framework of tetrameric Bi4Br12 in the solid state. A one-dimensional arene−tetrameric unit−arene packing motif is observed.
