The sorption isotherms proposed by Barrer have been modified in two ways. First, the theory has been extended to apply to the sorption behavior of crosslinked polymers by including a contribution to the free energy of the elastic stretching of the network in accordance with the findings of Flory and Rehner. Second, the effect on the sorption isotherm of a concentration dependent heat of dilution has been investigated. Both these corrections may lead to the appearance of a two‐valued sorption isotherm.
