The stress–strain properties of 40 samples of wool fibres, representing four enduse groupings, have been examined. There are significant difierences between the groups in the stress values developed at strains ranging from 2% to the breaking point. When all the Fesults are pooled together, groups being ignored, stress values are found to be significantly dependent on diameter (at all strains) and on the coefficient of variation along the length of single fibres (at 2% strain and at the breaking point). The stress at 30% strain is independent of variations along the length of the fibre.
