A multicyclic molecule (illustrated here) was prepared by self-assembly of 1,3,5-pentanetriamine and formaldehyde in quantitative yield. This molecule can exist in four diamond-lattice conformations of symmetries D2d, S4, C2v and D2d. A conformation interconversion scheme is proposed. It involves also two less populated quasi-diamond-lattice intermediates; one of which forms a clathrate with dioxane.
