A new and very simple type of motion for use with constant deviation prisms is described. The motion fulfils certain theoretically ideal conditions. The mechanical parts of the apparatus are much cheaper to build than the old type of motion about a fixed axis. The method has been in use for the last two years in connexion with monochromatic illuminators.
