The effect of the electrode size on the diffusion current of the cathodic reaction was investigated under transient conditions. Plane circular surfaces of platinum electrodes with diameters, d, ranging from 1.27 to 0.0127 cm were used. The diffusion current under potentiostatic conditions could be expressed as where is an empirical parameter which is a function of . For and the diffusion mode was equivalent to semi‐infinite spherical diffusion. On the other hand, for , and semi‐infinite linear diffusion was the controlling mode. The change in the diffusion mode occurred rather abruptly at about .
