An analysis of the results obtained in a series of studies dealing particularly with the reactions and synthesis of macroporous copolymers of glycidyl methacrylate‐ethylene dimethacrylate showed that relatively freely mobile poly(glycidyl methacrylate) chains are bound on the surface of globules which form the basic unit of a bead structure. These chains, in turn, make possible the formation of products with requirements on the steric order of substituents, on the one hand, but impede an effective application of the macroporous polymer as a protecting group, on the other. Their presence is explained on the basis of kinetics and copolymerization mechanism of the monomers.
