The Synthesis of Some 2-Substituted Morpholines

In connection with the synthesis of a number of compounds which were active as antidepressants, such as 2-(o-ethoxyphen-oxymethyl) morpholine (‘Vivalan’)1a and 2-styrylmorpholine,2 studies were directed towards the synthesis of suitable morpholine intermediates functionalised in the 2-position which could be readily made, preferably on a large scale.
