Although occasional reference is seen to absolute weight deficiencies, the usual practice is to consider the weight deficit with reference to other personal statistics. The theoretically ideal weight for a given age, sex, and height may be obtained from many statistical studies.56A deviation of over 10 to 15 per cent below an ideal weight may be regarded as undernutrition.15, 48In our series we have arbitrarily set 15 per cent as the critical level. We have not attempted the intricate differential diagnosis between undernutrition and simple underweight.5...Bibliography1.
