Energy conversion from two pump waves into a middle-frequency weak signal wave due to four-wave mixing in low-dispersion fibers is analyzed numerically and experimentally. Energy conversion of 20% is possible under realistic conditions, limited by fiber attenuation, high-order dispersion, and pump depletion.
