Radial keratotomies were performed in cats and dogs using a diamond knife with edge settings 90% or 100% of the thinnest paracentral ultrasonic pachymetry. Histopathologic evaluation revealed an average effective obtained incision depth of 84.4% and 86.8%. desired depth, respectively. Although there was variation In incision depth, this study suggests that the average depth obtained histologically with diamond knives is approximately 85% of corneal thickness when the blades are set at 90% to 100% of thinnest paracentral pachymetry.
