Orientation of calcium molybdate (CaMoO4) and other single crystals having the scheelite structure

Values of interplanar a ngles useful in distinguishing th e [100] from the [110] direction in CaMoO. are given to facilitate ori enta tion by analys is of back-re Aec tion Laue patterns. The distinction betwee n the [00l] and [001] direc ti ons in the sc heelite struc ture is di sc ussed and examples of physical properties de pe nd en t upon thi s di stin c tion are given. The [001] direc ti on is defined in terms of the c rysta l structure and a procedure for id entifyin g [001] using Laue pattern s is describ ed. The sam e distinction applies to certain no npolar directions of all crys tals belon gin g to th e followin g none nanti omorphous point grou ps: I, m, 2/m , mmm , 3, 3m, 3m , 4' , 4/m, 4/mmm , 6, 6/m, 6/mmm, m3 and m3m .
