Economic analysis demonstrates viable profitability driven primarily by market prices in scallop aquaculture, highlighting the need for market price stabilization.
This study analyzes the management status and economic feasibility of scallop aquaculture in Gyeongnam, Korea, based on farm-level survey data. Economic performance was evaluated using NPV, IRR, and BCR indicators, and sensitivity analyses were conducted on market price, seed cost, and labor cost. The results indicate that scallop farming is economically viable on average across the surveyed farms, with higher profitability in Goseong compared to Tongyeong. However, profitability is highly sensitive to fluctuations in market prices, while seed and labor costs have relatively limited impacts. These findings suggest that stabilizing market prices is essential for enhancing the sustainability of the scallop aquaculture industry.
