Polarization-sensitive λ = 6 cm observations of the BL Lacertae object 0735+178 have been made using a four-element VLB inteferometer with a resolution of 9 x 2 mas. The total intensity and polarization structures are well represented by three unresolved components--a "core" and two "jet" components. The core was moderately polarized (m ~ 4%), the outer knot was more strongly polarized (m ~ 15%), and the inner knot in the jet was weakly polarized (m <= 2%). The B field indicated by the polarization position angles of the components is roughly perpendicular to the jet at the position of the outer knot. Over a period of 24 hr, the polarized flux density of the VLBI core fell by 40%. This may imply an apparent brightness temperature as high as 4.8h^-2^ x 10^15^ K (H_0_ = 100h km s^-1^ Mpc).
