By the gas evaporation technique with induction heating, Zn ultrafine particles are prepared. They are investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectrometry, infrared spectrophotometry, and differential scanning calorimetry. The experimental results show that the crystal structure is the same as that of bulk material. Several crystal habits are found in the samples. Their surfaces are composed of ZnO and chemisorbed carbonates. In air under ambient conditions, they are rather stable. An oxidization process occurs when the temperature is above 100 °C.
