In the year 1890, Professor Senn in the preface to his work on the "Principles of Surgery," said: "When the subject of tumors was reached it was found that the manuscript had become so voluminous that it was deemed advisable to publish the volume without this part of the intended scope of the work, an arrangement to which the publisher kindly gave his consent. It is the author's intention to make good this defect by the preparation in the near future, of a special work on"The Pathology and surgical Treatment of Tumors.' " The book under consideration is the outcome of the promise made five years ago, and the promise has been well and faithfully performed in the production of this handsome volume.
