Measurements of the polarization, in magnitude and direction, and of the absolute intensity of the light from the solar corona were made on October 2, 1959, from two stations in French West Mrica. Ten complete experiments were carried out in each of two wave4ength regions. The effective wave lengths were 4750 and 8300 A. In addition, the background skylight polarization and intensity were measured at both wave lengths. All measurements were absolute and are given in units of the sun's average surface brightness. The measurements allow separation of the coronal light into F and K components and permit an upper limit to be set for the synchrotron radiation in the visible and infrared regions of the spectrum. Equatorial electron densities are determined, and limits are set on the polar electron densities. Our data are compared with previous absolute measurements.
