The authors present experimental data on laser-excited 4p 1/2,3/2 ns (J=1) autoionising Rydberg series in calcium. The measurements included laser absorption spectra after resonant three-photon excitation (employing the 'near-resonant core excitation'), electron branching ratios and angular distributions. The results are compared with theoretical spectra obtained from a 13-channel MQDT calculation, using the K matrix recently published by Greene and Kim (1987).
