The macroporous poly(styrene-divinylbenzene) adsorbent, PRP-1, has been used to effect reversed-phase separations over the pH range 1 to 13. Separations of sulfa drags, anti-epileptic drugs chlorophenols, and some acids in wine were performed to exemplify some advantages of reversed-phase chromatography performed at pH extremes. The advantages discussed are enhanced selectivity and detector response and improved solute identification.
