A fractionation scheme employing ion‐exchange chromatography was used to determine the speciation of lead in soil solution from five polluted soils. In acid soils lead was found to be mainly in a cationic form, with some organic complexes present. In a calcareous soil, neutral complexes were dominant with some cationic lead species also present.
