THE fractionation of the benzoates obtained from ordinary ergosterol [Callow, 1930, 1931] has led to the isolation of a-dihydroergosterol, the occurrence of which among the yeast sterols has not hitherto been reported. This compound is the only one found present in sufficient amount for separation and identifi- cation.
